PLTP's Beyond the Rails Grant Program
As Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP) builds the Purple Line in partnership with the Maryland Transit Administration, connecting with neighboring Prince George's and Montgomery county communities as their long-term partner is a top priority. To tangibly support organizations working to make our communities better places to live, work, and play, we sponsor a community grant program called Beyond the Rails. Program Information
Award Amounts
Grant awards range from $1,000 to $3,000 per year.
Categories:
- Community – Projects that support the overall wellbeing of communities adjacent to the Purple Line (e.g., environment, health, recreation, education, etc.). Potential example: Tot-lot equipment for a pre-school.
- Environment – Projects that enhance or protect the natural environment. Potential example: A local tree-planting initiative.
Schedule & Conditions:
Grants are awarded twice a year. The application deadline for the next group of grants is November 30, 2024.
Community groups are eligible to receive one grant award per year. Six grant awards are planned per selection cycle (12 per year). Contingent upon applications received, our intent is to provide grants in equal number to groups located in Prince George's and Montgomery counties.
Evaluation Criteria:
Successful applications will:
- Support an organization or neighborhood (not an individual);
- Provide benefits to a community adjacent to the Purple Line corridor; and
- Pertain to at least one of the two categories outlined in the Grant Categories section.
Performance Evaluation
Grant recipients are required to complete a follow-up evaluation form describing how they used their Beyond the Rails grant and the benefits that were gained from it.
