Summer 2024 Progress at the University of Maryland

Purple Line crews installed embedded track, reopened Campus Drive, completed a new bike lane and more.

After a successful summer of construction, you will notice some changes on campus, including embedded track, new sidewalks and a bike path. While Purple Line trains are not yet operational, keep safety in mind when riding near tracks. See our Ride Safe fact sheet for more information.

This month, the Purple Line celebrated another major milestone, officially welcoming the first light rail vehicle (LRV) to Maryland.

The Maryland Transit Administration and the Purple Line project team today celebrated the arrival of the first Purple Line light rail vehicle.

This summer the Purple Line continues its momentum, recently celebrating a major milestone: the opening of the newly designed Talbot Avenue Bridge!

The Purple Line team, local elected officials and the communities of Lyttonsville and North Woodside gathered to commemorate the opening of the redesigned Talbot Avenue bridge. After a 6-year closure, the new bridge represents a significant pedestrian and vehicle connection for the Silver Spring area and symbolizes a milestone for the project.
