On or about November 15, 2021, the sidewalk adjacent to the College Park Bus Loop from River Road (identified in the graphic) will be closed through December 31, 2021. Signage will be in place to guide bicyclists and pedestrians to the open sidewalk. Work may take place 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and weekends as needed through completion of the work.

Update: Beginning on or about October 26, 2021, a segment of Rock Creek Trail will be flagged in the work zone (identified in the graphic) for approximately 3 weeks. Work may take place from 7.a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Rock Creek Trail will remain open to the public with minor disruptions while equipment is being moved around the work zone. Please obey flaggers while flagging operations are being utilized.

Rock Creek Detour

The Purple Line will implement a daily closure of 24th Avenue at the University Boulevard service roadThe Purple Line will implement a daily closure of 24th Avenue at the University Boulevard service roadentrance, as well as the service road between 24th Ave. and 25th Ave. to establish a work zone for undergroundutility relocations. This work will occur for approximately 4 weeks, from 7 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday and asneeded on weekends. Street parking will be restricted in the area of the work zone. Access to 24th Ave. and theservice road will be maintained from Lewisdale Dr. for local traffic only.

To facilitate construction of the Purple Line and Montgomery County’s Capital Crescent Trail, Montgomery County has established an interim trail for the public’s use. Any questions regarding the interim Georgetown Branch Trail should be directed to Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation.

On September 1, 2019, the Purple Line closed the College Park Metro Bus Loop long-term for construction. The bus stops within the bus loop have been relocated to temporary bus shelters along River Road. Please note that buses will queue up at the temporary bus stops from 5 a.m. from 11 p.m.

On April 22, 2019, the Purple Line implemented a long-term lane closure of the westbound lanes on Ellin Road between Hanson Oaks Drive and Emerson Place.

On May 11, 2020, the Purple Line implemented a closure of Bonifant Street (west) between Ramsey Street and Georgia Avenue for construction. The closure will be in place through the end of 2021 and will remain in place until work is complete. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the road closure. Pedestrians must obey construction signs and stay out of the work zone for their safety and the safety of the construction crew.

Bonifant Street West Closure

The Purple Line has activated zones I, II, III, and IV of the long-term work zones adjacent to the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center. Wayfinding signage can be found posted around the work zones. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and weekends.
