Riverdale Road Closure
Northeast Branch Trail Detour
On November 18, 2019, the Purple Line implemented a closure of the Northeast Branch Trail between the University Research Court and Haig Drive access points. This section of the trail will be closed until approximately February 2020.
Campus Drive Sidewalk Closure
On November 11, 2019, the Purple Line implemented a long-term sidewalk closure on Campus Drive between the Paint Branch Trail and River Road. A signed detour is in place to guide bicyclists and pedestrians, that includes the use of stairs and elevators to cross the train tracks at the College Park Metro station. A paratransit service is available, for those who are unable to use the stairs at the College Park Metro station, while the elevator is not operational. The paratransit service will operate Monday-Thursday from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m., Saturday from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. and Sunday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Vehicles will operate in continuous loops alternating from one side of the closure to the other.
Sligo Creek Trail Detour
On January 14, 2020, crews implemented the detour of the Sligo Creek Trail to safely accommodate construction. Work can take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and weekends, for approximately 4 weeks.
Overnight and Weekend Closures of Colesville Road
Beginning January 5, 2020, Colesville Road will be closed periodically between Wayne Avenue and East-West Highway as needed between the hours of 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Monday – Friday through the end of April 2020. In addition to the evening closures, weekend closures will occur on an as needed basis beginning at 8 p.m. Friday – 6 a.m. on Monday through the end of April 2020. From 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. Colesville Road will have two lanes open in each direction with a Purple Line work zone in the center lane between East-West Highway and Wayne Avenue.
Additionally, please allow extra travel time following the first of the year to locate your bus stops at the Silver Spring Transit Center. Starting January 5, 2020, MetroBus and Ride On stops on the first floor of the SSTC will be temporarily relocated, to safely accommodate Purple Line work. The northbound right lane on Colesville Road between Wayne and Georgia Avenue will be repurposed for bus stops. Bayfield Street Detour
Beginning on or about February 27, 2020, Bayfield Street will be closed between University Boulevard and Glenville Road to allow for utility construction for approximately ﬁve weeks. A signed detour for both vehicles and pedestrians will be in place to direct traﬃc. Work can take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and weekends.
Merrimac Drive at University Boulevard Closure Detour
Beginning on or about January 24, 2020, Merrimac Drive at University Boulevard will be closed for construction for approximately three weeks. A signed detour will be in place to direct traffic. Work can take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and weekends.
Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center (SSTC) Long-Term Work Zone Pedestrian Detour
The Purple Line has activated zones I, II, III, and IV of the long-term work zones adjacent to the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center. Wayfinding signage can be found posted around the work zones. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and weekends.
Georgetown Branch Interim Trail
Ellin Road Closure
Beginning on or about October 1, 2018, Ellin Road between Veterans Parkway (Hwy. 410) and Hanson Oaks Drive will be closed for approximately one year for construction. Detour signage will be available to direct drivers. This closure is required to relocate utilities located in the road and to construct the facilities necessary for the Purple Line.
Campus Drive Closure
Beginning on or about August 26, 2018, the eastbound lane on Campus Drive, between Regents Drive and Library Lane will be closed long-term for construction. Westbound traffic will still flow normally during this closure. Drivers on University Boulevard E. (MD 193) will be directed to use Stadium Drive. Detour signage will be posted to direct drivers.
